What is JLPT and Who Takes JLPT Exams Worldwide

The JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) is conducted worldwide by the Japan Foundation in collaboration with Japan Educational Exchanges and Services (JEES). These organizations jointly administer the test to evaluate and certify the Japanese proficiency of non-native speakers. Outside Japan, the Japan Foundation works with local institutions to conduct the exam, while in Taiwan, it collaborates with the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association. Taking the JLPT Overseas: Step-by-Step

  • Step 1: Find a Test Site
  • Step 2: Confirm Registration & Obtain Test Guide
    • Contact the local host institution for registration instructions.
    • Obtain the Test Guide including application forms.
    • Registration Periods:
      • First Test (July): Around March–April
      • Second Test (December): Around August–September
  • Step 3: Register for the Test
    • Follow instructions in the Test Guide.
    • Pay registration fees.
    • Confirm application period with your local host institution.
  • Step 4: Receive Your Test Voucher
