JLPT December 2026 Exam Centers in India

Published: 2026-09-12 06:30:20

The December 2026 JLPT is scheduled for Sunday, 6 December 2026. For India, the official JLPT overseas test-site list names seven test cities: New Delhi, Pune, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Karur. Registration is handled by a local host institution in each city, not through one national portal. MOSAI's registration for the New Delhi centre is now closed.

This guide shows the exam date, the city-wise host list, the MOSAI New Delhi registration status and published fees, how to confirm your venue, what each JLPT level means, and how to use the weeks left before the exam. For wider JLPT preparation and exam information, see our JLPT hub.

Before you plan anything: the city on the official list is the test city, not the exam venue. Registration dates, fees and procedures differ by host. Always confirm with your local host and your own admit card.

About venues: the official list gives cities and hosts, not exam venue addresses. We have not listed venue addresses here. Your venue and reporting time will come from the host and your admit card.

About cities not on the list: Santiniketan (Visva-Bharati) appears on the official list for the July 2026 test only, not December. Cities that students search for, such as Guwahati, Rewari or Tirupati, do not appear in the official India list for December 2026. Use the official list, and if your nearest city is not on it, choose one of the seven above.

MOSAI JLPT Registration 2026: New Delhi Centre

MOSAI is the listed local host for New Delhi. Its official JLPT December 2026 page states that the registration period is closed. If a host's registration has closed, do not rely on third-party claims that you can still apply. For a general walkthrough, see our guide to the JLPT application form and our overview of taking the JLPT in India. If you plan to sit the next cycle, watch your host's announcement around the application window the official JLPT process describes.

How to Check Your JLPT Exam Center and Venue

  1. Check the official test-city list. Confirm your city is listed for December on the JLPT overseas list.
  2. Identify the local host for that city, using the table above.
  3. Read the host's announcement for registration status, fees and the Test Guide.
  4. Confirm the venue and reporting time from official candidate instructions. Do not rely on last year's venue.
  5. Follow your registration confirmation and admit card. These carry your level, centre details and any exam-day instructions.

Japanese Exam Levels: JLPT N1 to N5

The JLPT has five levels. N5 is the easiest and N1 the most difficult. Choose by your current proficiency, not by the level you hope to hold.

LevelWhat it measuresSuggested starting point
N5Basic Japanese, mainly learned in classBeginners. See our JLPT N5 study guide for Indian students and Basic Japanese (N5) course
N4Basic Japanese understandingLearners who have finished N5 material. Intermediate Japanese (N4)
N3An intermediate level that bridges the basic levels and N2/N1Pre-Advance Japanese (N3)
N2Japanese used in everyday situations across a broader range of contextsAdvance Japanese (N2)
N1Advanced comprehension across a broad range of contextsSuper Advance Japanese (N1)

Do not assume every local centre offers every level. Confirm this with your host when you register. For the content of each level, see our JLPT syllabus guide.

How to Prepare for JLPT December 2026

From 10 October 2026, there are roughly eight weeks before the exam on 6 December. If your host's registration is closed, you can still use this time for the next cycle. If you are registered, here is a simple plan.

PeriodFocus
Now to end of OctoberRevise fundamentals for your level. Fix weak vocabulary, grammar and kanji.
NovemberStudy your level's reading and listening skills. Begin timed practice.
Last two weeks (about 22 November to 5 December)Take full timed mock tests, review mistakes, and avoid new material.
Exam weekLight revision. Confirm your admit card, venue and reporting time.

By level

  • N5/N4: Hiragana and katakana, core vocabulary, basic grammar patterns, beginner kanji, and daily listening practice.
  • N3: Intermediate grammar, wider vocabulary and kanji, reading speed, and listening comprehension.
  • N2/N1: Advanced vocabulary and grammar, long reading passages, fast listening comprehension, and full timed mocks.

Use official sample questions on the JLPT website first, then add JLPT practice tests to build speed.
